Rooney＇s romance with Coleen had started in the school summer holidays of 2002 when he had just left high school and was just weeks away from making his Everton debuts21． Both were 16．
I had to walk past Coleen's house every day to get to school. At that stage Coleen and I didn't really know each other and I just used to hang around22 with other lads up the road. Still, I'd see her when I was walking home and I fancied23 her then.
But Coleen wasn't really interested in boys. She was a good student who did her homework. All I was interested in was my football.
I used to pull little stunts24 to try and get close to her, but I'm quite shy and with Coleen it was worse because I fancied her. I desperately wanted to kiss her but I didn't know how.
I remember once I pretended to have contact lenses that I couldn't get in my eyes and asked her to have a look and see if my eyes were OK. She looked and then walked away.
I could never get the courage to ask her out properly or kiss her. I invited her out on loads of25 dates, but she thought I wasn't serious.
But my day came when the chain came off her bike. I saw her and stopped to help on my way home. I fixed the chain then asked her if she'd come on a date with me. This time she said yes! I was on cloud nine26.

I walked her home and I phoned her as soon as I got in and asked her for a proper27 date. Again, she said yes.
As weeks turned to months, he realised how much in love he was by the way his life had changed from simply rushing out on to the street after school to play．
She has a great personality. She was gorgeous looking. Every time I went home after meeting her, I'd phone her as soon as I got in to tell her I was home. Then I'd tell her I loved her.
