Q:So lads, are you splitting up?
Simon: Well the plan is to go away and do individual things. We've thought long and hard about this decision but we think a year away will give us a chance to grow and bring new things to Blue when we meet up again.
Lee: We're not going to quit—we will be back. There are bands that have had time apart and got back together—Destiny's Child have done it and look how successful they were as solo artists.
Ant: It's just time out2 for now.3
Q:You've been living in each other's pockets for the last few years. Have you learnt anything from each other?
Ant: I've learnt how to say no!
Simone: I've learnt so much from each other... it's been emotional.4
Duncan: I've learnt to have more fun and not to take things too seriously. Above all, I have three great mates who I am going to be friends with for the rest of my life. They are the ones that have gone through this crazy stuff with me.
Lee: I've learnt about the importance of friendship—there's nothing better than performing on stage and turning around to see your mates doing it with you.
Q:What's your best memory of being in Blue?
Simon: Definitely signing our record deal—that was so cool.
Ant: Winning our first BRIT Award!
Lee: In New York someone came up to me and asked me if I sang at the Queen Jubilee5! I thought that was really cool.
Q:What's been the worst moment for you guys?
Lee: One moment that sticks out6 for me was when we were in Taiwan. I wasn't very well at all and spent most of the trip in bed.
Ant: On a flight home from Hong Kong the weather was awful and all of a sudden lightening hit the plane. I jumped on our tour manager like Scooby Doo7 and he just looked at me and said “it's alright mate— if we die, we die.” It was actually quite comforting, in a really horrible kind of way!
Simon: The worst thing was when Lee had his car accident. It was awful seeing his car flip8 upside down... it makes me shiver just thinking about it.
Duncan: Being in New York on September 11 was horrific. We were there shooting our video for If You Come Back and we all just wanted to get home.
Q:So what is next for Blue?
Ant: I'd like to give acting a go. I've got an agent now, and I've been to a few auditions9.
Lee: I wrote a script10 that has just been given the go-ahead to be made into a film.
Simon: I've been working hard on some solo material.
Duncan: I would really love to get into theatre—but I'm totally ready for any new challenge.
Q:Is the future scary11 or exciting?
Ant: Scary!
Simon: Yeah, scary.
Duncan: No, it's exciting—it's a new opportunity to do new stuff.
Lee: It's going to be a great time for us to explore what else we can do. This is only the end of the first chapter of Blue... there's another one just waiting to be written!
