1． My mother likes dancing very much． She would practice dancing at home for nearly an hour every night, but she doesn＇t dance very well and she doesn＇t have much confidence． One night she asked me, “What do you think of my dance?” As her daughter I had to tell a kindhearted white lie, “Very cool! 2． One morning my mother said she was an expert at cooking noodles, so I asked her to prepare a bowl as my breakfast． It looked delicious, but when I tasted it—oh, mother must be too careless to put salt． “What do you think of it? Isn＇t wonderful? ” Mother asked me cheerfully． “Yeah, yeah, it is． I＇ve never enjoyed anything better than this．” I said with a bitter smile．

3． My father telephoned me from his factory saying that he got slightly injured because of his colleague＇s carelessness, and that he would stay in the factory for the night until everything was OK． I knew he just wanted to play cards to have a good time, but I lied to my mother that father was too busy to go home, lest she quarrel with him． Next day I warned father that there would be no such lie next time． And he agreed． A white lie does good to us, sometimes．

4． Once I did so terribly in the examination that I didn＇t know how to explain it to my parents． As an honest boy, I decided to tell the truth． When I got home, however, I saw my mother sick in bed, because of hard work, as father told me． To make things worse, she asked me about the exam—since I could not bear seeing her lying in bed with more anxiety, I told a lie that it was not so bad． It was a lie indeed, but a lie of encouragement to me and comfort to my dear mother．

5． I love a girl, but she doesn＇t know it at all． Then last Sunday, as an excuse, I borrowed a reference book from her and returned it with a piece of paper full of words from pop songs like “Wherever you go, whatever you do, I＇ll be right there waiting for you．” But she asked me to explain these words! I thought hard, telling a sad, white lie: “I＇m sorry． This is what I＇ve written down when listening to the music．”
