J: I think you'd better sit up. You're much too young to get picked up by the police.
A: Police?
J: Yup, police.
A: Oh, 2:15 and back here to change...2:45...
J: You know, people who can't handle liquor shouldn't drink.
A: “If I were dead and buried and I heard your voice, beneath the sod, my heart of dust would still rejoice...”do you know that poem?
J: What do you know. You're well-read, well-dressed…snoozing away in a public street. Would you care to make a statement?
A: What the world needs is a return to sweetness and decency in the souls of its young men…
J: Yeah, I couldn't agree with you more, but…(Joe summons a taxi.) get yourself some coffee…you'll be all right. Look, you take the cab.
2． You said five grand?
J: How much would a real interview with this dame be worth?
Hennesey (H for short): Are you referring to Her Highness?
J: I'm not referring to Anie Oakley, Dorothy Lamore and ...How much?
H: What do you care? You've got about as much chance to...
J: But if I did? How much would it be worth?
H: Oh, just a plain talk of worldly issues is probably worth about 250. Her views on clothes of course would be worth a lot more. Maybe a 1000.
J: Dollars?
H: Dollars.
J: I'm talking about her views on everything. The private and secret longings of a princess. Her innermost thoughts as revealed to your own correspondent in a private, personal, exclusive interview. Can't use it, huh? I didn't think you'd like it.
H: Come here. Love angle too, I suppose.
J: Practically all love angles.
H: With pictures.
J: Could be. How much?
H: That particular story would be worth five grand to any news service. But tell me Mr. Bradley if you are sober, just how you are going to obtain this fantastic interview?
J: I plan to enter her sick room disguised as a thermometer. You said five grand? I want you to shake on that.
H: You realize of course Her Highness is in bed today and leaves for Athens tomorrow. Now I'd like to make a little side bet with you: five hundred says you don't come up with the story.
3． Today is going to be a holiday．
A: Mr. Bradley, I have a confession to make.
J: Confession?
A: Yes, I...ran away last night, from school.
J: Oh, what was the matter? Trouble with the teacher?
A: No, nothing like that.
J: Well, you don't just run away from school for nothing.
A: I only meant to be for an hour or two. They gave me something last night to make me sleep.
J: Oh, I see.
A: Now I'd better go get a taxi and go back.
J: Look, before you do, why don't you take a little time for yourself?
A: Maybe another hour.
J: Live dangerously. Take the whole day.
A: I could do some of the things I've always wanted to.
J: Like what?
A: Oh, you can't imagine. I'd like to do just whatever I like, the whole way long.
J: You mean things like having you hair cut? Eating Gelat?
A: Yes, and I'd like to sit in sidewalk cafe, look in shop windows. Walk in the rain. Have fun and maybe some excitement. Doesn't mean much to you, does it?
J: It's great! Tell you what, why don't we do all those things? Together.
A: But don't you have to work?
J: Work? No, today is going to be a holiday.
A: But you don't want to do a lot of silly things.
J: Don't I? First wish: one sidewalk café coming right up. I know just the place: Rokers. What'll the people in school say when they see your new haircut?
A: They'll have a fit. What would they say if they knew that I spent the night in your room?
J: Well, I'll tell you what: you don't tell your folks and I won't tell mine.
A: It's a pact.
4． There was something I wanted to tell you．
(In Joe＇s accompaniment, Anne has a very good day in Rome． That night, they attend the dancing party on the boat and have an unexpected fight with some secret agents who come in search for Anne． After they get back to Joe＇s home, their relation becomes subtle.)
J: Everything ruined?
A: No. It'll be dry in a minute.
J: Suits you. You should always wear my clothes.
A: Seems I do.
J: I thought a little wine might be good.
A: Shall I cook something?
J: No kitchen. Nothing to cook. I always eat out.
A: Do you like that?
J: Life isn't always what one likes. Is it?
A: No, it isn't.
J: Tired?
A: A little.
J: You've had quite a day.
A: A wonderful day.
Radio: This is the American Hour from Rome broadcasting a special news bulletin in English and Italian. Tonight there is no further word from the bedside of Princess Anne in Rome where she was taken ill yesterday on the last leg of her European goodwill tour. This has given rise to rumors that her condition may be serious which is causing alarm and anxiety among the people in her country.
A: The news can wait until tomorrow.
J: Yes.
A: Can I have a little more wine? Sorry I couldn't cook us some dinner.
J: Did you learn how in school?
A: I'm a good cook. I can earn my living at it. I can sew too, and clean a house and iron. I learned to do all those things. I just haven't had the chance to do it for anyone.
J: It looks like I'll have to move. I'll get myself a place with a kitchen.
A: Yes. I'll have to go now.
J: Yeah. There was something I wanted to tell you.
A: No, please. Nothing. Let's go and get dressed.
5． I have no story．
（After Anne left, Joe stays in his room, alone, lost in thought． There＇s a knock at the door, and Mr． Hennesy comes in．）
H: Is it true? Did you really get it?
J: Did I get what?
H: The princess story. The exclusive. Did you get it?
J: No, I didn't get it.
H: What? But that's impossible.
J: Do you want a cup of coffee or something?
H: Joe, you can't hold out on me.
J: Who's holding out on you?
H: You are!
J: What are you talking about?
H: I know too much! First you come into my office and ask about an exclusive on the Princess. Next, you disappear. Then I get the rumor from my contact at the embassy that the princess isn't sick at all, that she's out in the town.
J: What kind of a newspaper man are you? You believe every bit rumor that comes your way?
H: Yeah...and a lot of other rumors. About a ball gone abarge down by the river. And the arrest of eight secret service men from a country which shall be nameless. And then comes the news of the Lady's miraculous recovering. It all adds up. And don't think by playing hard to get you'll raise the price of that story. A deal's a deal! Now come on, come on, come on. Where is that story?
J: I have no story.
6． I will cherish my visit here in memory as long as I live．
Journalist: Which of the cities visited did Your Highness enjoy the most?
A: Each in its own way was unforgettable. It would be difficult to ... Rome. By all means Rome. I will cherish my visit here in memory as long as I live.
Minister: Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you very much.

4.我有些话要告诉你。（在乔的陪伴下，安妮在罗马度过了愉快的一天。当晚他们参加了船上的舞会，不想与前来寻找安妮公主的几个密探打了起来。回到乔的家后，两人的感情变得微妙起来。）
乔：衣服都湿透了？
安：没有。一会儿就会干的。
乔：真合身。你应该总穿我的衣服。
安：似乎是的。
乔：我想喝点酒可能会有好处。
安：我是否该煮点什么？
乔：没有厨房。没有东西煮。我通常都在外面吃。

乔：我拿到什么？
亨：公主的故事，独家新闻呀！你拿到了吗？
乔：没有，我并没有拿到。
亨：什么？不可能。
乔：要不要来点咖啡什么的？
亨：乔，你不能对我有所隐瞒呀！
乔：谁向你隐瞒了？
亨：你呀！
乔：你在胡说些什么？
亨：我太了解你了。你先是跑到我的办公室，说有公主的独家消息。接着你消失了。然后我从使馆熟人那儿才知道公主根本没病。她跑了出来，就在这城里。
乔：你算是什么报人？你相信随便听来的市井流言？
亨：是呀！我还听到更多的传言。关于船上舞会的事情，还有八名国籍不明的情报人员被捕。接着突然公主神奇地康复。放在一起全联系上了。那篇报道你可别煞费苦心狮子大开口。说好的是不能再改变的！快！那篇报道在哪儿？
乔：我可没有什么报道。
6.我会珍惜在这里的记忆，直到永远。
记者：公主殿下对所访问过的城市中印象最深的是哪一个呢？
安：每个城市都各具特色，令人难忘，很难……罗马，无疑是罗马。我会珍惜在这里的记忆，直到永远！
