Face to Face with “Harry Potter“|“哈利·波特”面对面

Q:How has it been working on “The Chamber of Secrets?”
A:Absolutely brilliant. In the first film, Harry is reacting to everything he sees around him. He's discovering the world and he's really very reactive. Whereas in the second book, which  happens to be my favorite book and I feel very lucky to be doing it, Harry is more pro-active in that he has discovered Hogwarts and his world, and he discovers something is wrong. Bad things are happening to it and he makes it his mission to save it so he is much more pro-active. And it was a lot more of a challenging part to play because Harry's character has evolved so much.

Q:Has your life changed after the first movie?
A:It really hasn't. There's not much difference. When people recognize me on the street I don't mind at all, because whenever they recognize me and want to talk about the film, it's always such positive things that they are saying and it's really great to hear. Some people might think it would become boring but it's really not because I like meeting people and I like hearing what people think about the film.

Q:Are you a "Harry Potter" expert, in the same way as some of the fans who know everything about the books?
A:I love the books but I don't know every last detail about them. There are kids who come on set and if we are doing a certain scene, even if they are not at all involved in the film, they just know what is going to happen in the rest of the scene. I'm not quite like that.

Q:Do you wear glasses in real life?
A:No, I don't. I did wear glasses once but I kept losing them. I don't really know why I had to wear them in the first place (Laughs).

Q:How have your friends reacted to what is happening to you?
A:They have been absolutely fantastic and they don't see me as Harry. They see me as Dan and that's what I feel like. I'm really lucky. Some boys may have become really jealous, I know that, but it hasn't happened and it makes me appreciate that I have some really good friends.

Q:I understand your school work is going very well.
A:Yes, phew! I've passed my common entrance exams into my next school. Thank you very much. But it's the best it's ever been really.

Q:So working on “Harry Potter” has helped you with some of your studies?
A:It has, actually. It really has. And we've had some teachers here on set and it's obviously paid off.

Q:Do you think you will act when you are older?
A:I love it and I might, but it's hard to say because there are so many other options. Chris Columbus has given me a real love of film, so I might want to be a director or a writer. I might want to be in the film industry in some way but I don't know whether I want to be an actor or not.

Q:Do you hope to make as many “Harry Potter” movies as possible?
A:I don't know. It depends. Basically I want to take it one film at a time, depict Harry as best as I can one film at a time.

Q:Did you have to do more stunts in the second movie?
A:I love doing the stunts. It's so cool. I do the majority of the stunts but obviously there are some where it's too complicated or there is too high a risk. But I've certainly had to do a lot more training. I do gym with David Holmes who is my stunt double and is really cool. He is an amazing gymnast and he has been getting me to do gymnastics. David's just turned 19 but he's about my height.

Q:What was the stunt you enjoyed the most?
A:Have you seen the set for “The Chamber of Secrets”? I had to climb up that to the top. That was the most fun thing to do.

Q:In a year of incredibly cool things happening what was the best?
A:The premier of the first movie was amazing. You know how you stock up memories over the year and then you have one of those moments where so much is happening and you delete everything that you remembered from the last year. The premier was one of those moments. I just seemed to forget everything. It was just unbelievable. It was blinding, there were so many lights. We filmed the first one over eight or nine months or something and it was great to see so many people turn out to see what Emma, Rupert, Chris, David and I had been working on for all that time. It made everything feel worth it. It was great to see.

Q:Chris has said that you have improved as an actor. How do you feel?
A:I feel a certain development. I know I've changed as an actor, hopefully not as a person, but that's all thanks to Chris. In the second film Chris can do a lot more complicated shots with us because we all know where our marks are, how to hit our marks. I think we've all learnt a lot; especially Emma, Rupert and I. You've kind of got to develop when you are on set for nine months straight.

Q:Chris was saying that you had some ideas of your own this time. How did that come about?
A:I guess it's one of the ways that I've developed as an actor. I had some ideas of the first film but I've been able to let them come to the screen more on the second one because I've got more of a plan of how to act it out. How do I come up with the ideas? I watch a lot of other films and I notice things that other actors do and once you get to know the character of Harry you kind of get a feeling of how he would react to things. So I basically go with my instinct quite a lot of times. I've developed my own instinct, but then Harry has an instinct too.

Q:If you compare the first and the second movie, how has Harry's character developed?
A:Obviously he is a growing up. In the first he reacts to what is going on around him, discovering this new world that he is in. In the second he is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. I don't think he was tough in the first but in the second Harry is a really tough guy, he is kind of an action hero, which is great. Also, I think Harry changes a lot emotionally in that he has a lot deeper emotional content and I think that comes out more in the second film.
