Nowadays, more and more people are concerned about whether young adults should be required to do mandatory national service. Lots of people believe the students are too young to participate in such a program. In my perspective, however, I think young adults could gain a lot from serving their country in one of the national services. Here are the main reasons supporting my idea.
Firstly, young adults would acquire more experience in social situations. They are too young to know a lot about the society that they have been nurtured in. National service would offer them a chance to familiarize themselves with a greater cross-section of that society. This experience would strengthen the young adults' personalities. It would also help the young adults to be more independent.

Mandatory service would help the young adults to choose what they want to do in the future. It would give them the opportunity to try different activities as well as career options without having to commit to a life path without experiencing that path first. If they wait until graduation to make a career choice, they may waste a lot of time looking for dream job without understanding the true nature of the job or career they are choosing. Our lives are not long enough to let us have chance wasting them.
Thirdly, national service would develop a commitment in the young adults to take responsibility for the success of their country. For example, a young adult working as a team member learns to compromise, negotiate, lead and follow, etc. These experiences develop a desire on the part of the team member to not only accomplish the task set before him, but also to succeed at the task.
Though young adults will encounter lots of difficulties during their service, once completed most of them will find they have matured from the experience. Little birds have to leave the nest some day, don't they?
In summary, I believe it is important for young adults to perform some kind of national service. It will not only help them to know more about the society of which they hope to become a member, but also help them find out what they want to do in the future.
